When I bought my 3DS in February of 2012, Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir was one of the first games I purchased. An ARG horror game?! Based on Fatal Frame?! I waited for dark and bust it from its shiny plastic prison. Oh... I need to turn the light on... oh... the light in my bedroom isn't bright enough... huh... |
So I didn't bother with story mode. Instead I enjoyed it as a toy that makes ghosts appear wherever I take pictures. And in that utility, it was awesome.
During 2013 I worked as a newspaper carrier. So I often played my 3DS at the distribution center while waiting for papers to arrive. And in the car whenever I wanting to pull over and take a break from chucking papers. It was nice. The two games I played the most were Fire Emblem Awakening and Ocarina of Time 3D. However, I did eventually bust out Spirit Camera. I mostly wanted to show my friends that "we had ghosts in the distribution center" for laughs, and it did provide entertainment. But as it turned out, the lighting in there was great for playing the game. So I finally tried story mode. It was fun, but not breath taking. Once again, playing a horror game in a bright environment just did not work. And since everything in the game was dark, I had to turn up the system brightness to prevent glare which ate up my batteries.
Given the spirit of the season, I thought Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir might make a great first review for the site. Better play it real quick to remember what it's like before I write about it!
And thus the great search for the Book of Faces commenced...

I started to freak out when it wasn't in my old DS folio, but eventually I found it. At some point I returned it to the original game box which was packed away in a closet.
So then I tried to resume my old save... and the game made no sense picking up at a random point after 2 years of not playing...
New game save it is!
So... guess I might as well journal about my play experiences as I work on the review.
